Education:

  • Master of Science in Inequalities and Social Science at the London School of Economics and Political Science
  • Bachelor of Political Science at Vilnius University Institute of International Relations and Political Science

Experience

  • Over 4 years of national and international experience in the non- governmental sector tackling issues of human rights, youth empowerment, social exclusion and social inequalities
  • Research assistant at the International Inequalities Institute at the London School of Economics and Political Science (London).
  • Head of Communications and Advocacy at the VA “Caritas” integration program for foreigners (Vilnius).
  • Internship at the Permanent Mission of Lithuania to the United Nations (New York)

Motivation

Despite the widespread meritocratic beliefs stating that one’s social position is determined by their efforts and talents, sociological research shows that individual’s chances to advance in life are strongly influenced by their social origins. This paradox is the source of many acute problems in Lithuania, including social exclusion and inequality. I aspire to introduce the rigorously developed knowledge of the academia to already existing social work expertise in Lithuania to ensure that people pushed out on the margins of the society receive systemic solutions to social issues, rather than individualised burden for structural problems. As a starting point for this I see the interdisciplinary youth work which is based on the principles of human rights and non–formal education.
