Application of AI solutions for patient triage: implementation plan in the Lithuanian healthcare system

9 September 2025 - 6 March 2026

Problem

According to a 2025 population survey commissioned by the National Audit Office, 73% of respondents identified long waiting times and limited accessibility of health services as the main issues in the healthcare system of Lithuania. Given limited human resources and rising service costs, there is an opportunity to transfer certain administrative, standardizable tasks to digital solutions, for example AI tools.

Plan

The project management team analyzes how patient triage processes are currently organized in Lithuanian healthcare institutions and assesses the potential for digitization and the application of artificial intelligence.

In addition, the project aims to identify the needs of healthcare institutions and, after evaluating potential technological solutions, to prepare an implementation plan for further actions. This plan will be developed based on the results of a survey of healthcare sector employees, an assessment of Lithuania’s digital transformation maturity, and an analysis of international best practices.

Goal

The goal of the project is to prepare recommendations that could contribute to more efficient patient flow management and improved accessibility of services.
