Motivation
When I was choosing where to study, the most important criterion was the development of critical thinking. I didn’t want to learn only facts, so the opportunity to learn why some people think one way and others another was what pushed me to go and study a BA in International Relations at the University of Birmingham.
The professors’ life experiences and activities outside the university increased my ambition and willingness to learn every day so that I could follow in their footsteps. When my studies were over, I had a question in my mind – how to apply my knowledge in Lithuania? But the words “public sector” and “bureaucracy” were very intimidating, so I decided to try my hand at commerce. I worked for a year as an editor for the international jewellery business magazine Baltic Jewellery News and did a 2–month internship at the Lithuanian Embassy in Sweden, in the Commercial Section. I was very happy to find out about the programme “Create Lithuania”, I think it is a great project that helped me and my colleagues to see the public sector in a different light.
