Motivation
Only after I left Lithuania did I fully understand what it means to love my country. No, I didn’t miss zeppelins and black Lithuanian bread – what I missed most was the sense of community; perhaps also knowing that you belong to a society that more or less understands you. I chose Creative Writing for my undergraduate studies, even though it seemed crazy to many. I felt that only by pushing myself out of my warm comfort zone could I learn more. I later completed a master’s degree in international publishing. I successfully juggled studies and work for all four years: I always follow the philosophy that the more you do, the more you create. I never doubted that I would return to the Motherland to write, create and live – the only unknown in that equation was job opportunities. I often asked myself if Lithuania needs emigrants… The program “Kurk Lietuvai” helped answer that question, so today I am already at home and I have a burning desire to show the world that we can. Because we really can.
