Motivation
In 2019, together with architect Laura Petruške, we founded the community garden “Ideju Lysve” in the Pilaitė micro–district in Vilnius. We use the community garden as a tool to bring the local community together and empower local residents to create their own city and its spaces.
The importance of involving local communities in the development and creation of cities is highlighted in Lithuanian (Lithuania 2030), European and global strategic documents (UN SDGs; UN Habitat). I believe that participatory planning and (creative) place–making are tools that reflect these documents in practice and can help local communities, municipalities and architects to communicate.
